Hello All,

There was some talk of a meeting this upcoming Friday (the 18th), but after talking to Dr. Bassett, I realized that there is a CWaL meeting this Friday, so we will not meet.

Instead, we will have our next meeting on the 25th.  This is a very important meeting, as we have at least one and possibly two guest speakers (Thank you very much Abeera).  They are prominent Muslims in our community, and we will be discussing Islamic faith in general, perceptions of Islam (including fundamentalist Islam), and anything else you want to bring up.  This will probably be a longer meeting, so plan to stay until around 4:45 (or latter, up to you).

Hey, some general things that seem important:

    1) Here is a good link about the afghan elections, just general stuff, but its informative: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8179845.stm

    2) I like this article about health care: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/10/us/politics/10obama.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&hp
and to watch the live coverage, you can find it all at this youtube site: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRaceCard

3)(Ridiculous) Controversy over the Education speech: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/04/us/04school.html

Maybe for school stuff we can put definitively discussing our major plans for the year. For me, I know I want to do something with the upcoming Copenhagen Convention on climate change. This is a very informative site: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/copenhagen
and here is a great article about why we should care about this and try to do something: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/cif-green/2009/sep/10/copenhagen-bob-ward
Check the board for information on what knowledgeable NGOs (such as 350 (www.350.org) and Greenpeace) have said should be done.
